Freida H. Zuschnitt

September 20, 1912 — October 13, 2004

Frieda Julia Hubbert Zuschnitt, 92, a life-long resident of Perkasie, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 13. She was the beloved wife of Charles M. Zuschnitt, who died in 1969.

Born on September 20, 1912, in Almont, PA, she was a daughter of the late Edward B. and Frieda Julia (Schaefer) Hubbert. Frieda grew up in South Perkasie, where her father had the first Baseball Shop, hand-stitching baseballs for the major leagues. She became an ardent Philadelphia Athletics fan, and loved to talk baseball.

Frieda was a 1932 graduate of the Lansdale Business School and immediately began teaching Business English, shorthand and typing at the business school up until 1942. After raising her family, she was employed by the State of Pennsylvania as a Nutritional Aide and visited many area residential and health center locations. She retired in the early 1980's.

She was a life-member of St. Michael's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sellersville where she had worked as Church Secretary for a few years. She was an active Republican.

Frieda was a talented pianist, playing by ear a large repertoire of the popular songs of the 30's and 40's. AS a young person she often accompanied her father and uncle, known as the Hubbert Brothers, as they sang duets in many local churches and community events. Frieda loved the poetry of Robert Bums and the Sonnets of Shakespeare. At the age of 91, she could still recite long passages from those bards.

A gifted poet herself, she filled many notebooks with her verses about nature, home, poignant memories, humor and spiritual insights. It is appropriate to quote several of her recent lines:
"If I have no tomorrows here, a moment of today
will open all eternity
For You have shown the way."

She is survived by two daughters: Jo Ann Zuschnitt Short, with whom she resided and Anne Helene Zuschnitt Cox and her husband, Bruce R. of Telford; one son: Charles Edward Zuschnitt and his wife, Arleen of Ocean Gate, NJ; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; two sisters: Helen Julia Hubbert Kemp of Perkasie and Augustina Julia Hubbert Strohm of Independence, KY.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Jane Louise Zuschnitt Homann, who died in 1998 and a brother, Edward Julius Hubbert, who died in 1947.

Her funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon, October 17 at 4:00 PM in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Horne, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville. Family and friends may call Sunday afternoon at the funeral home, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM.

Interment will take place in Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn, on Friday morning, October 22 at 11 :00 AM. Please meet at the funeral home by 10:00 AM for the procession to the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grand View Hospice, 700 Lawn Avenue, Sellersville, PA 18960.
