Mary Agnes Wright, 97, of the Rockhill Mennonite Community, West Rockhill Township, formerly of Mahanoy Plane, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday evening, April 22, 2009, at her residence.
She was the oldest life-long resident of Mahanoy Plane, having been born there on June 19, 1911, to the late James and Margaret (Flannery) Wright.
Mary was a member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, Mahanoy Plane, and the Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. Cecelia, No. 1529, Girardville. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Miss Wright had received an award for 50 years of continuous voting in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
She was an avid Phillies fan.
Miss Wright is survived by her three nieces: Margaret (Bees) Heuges; Maureen (Bees) Madonia; and Helen Ann (Schappe) Pudney; a nephew, William Bees; and the following cousins: Alice (Joyce) Bradley; Helen (Flannery) Meyers, and her godchild, Joyce (Flannery) Hereshko; James Flannery; Edward Flannery; and Nancy (Flannery) Engelhard.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her three brothers: Thomas, Francis, and Cyril Wright; three sisters: Anna Wright; Margaret (Wright) Bees; and Dorothy (Wright) Schappe; and a nephew, Joseph Bees.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at 10:00 A.M. in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. Family and friends may call Wednesday morning from 9:00 A.M. until 9:45 A.M. in the church.
Interment will be in Old St. Joseph’s / Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Cemetery, Frackville, Pennsylvania.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Assisted Living, 900 West Market Street, Orwigsburg, PA 17961.
