John L. Sweeney, of Perkasie, died Tuesday, January 27, 2004, in Rockhill Mennonite Community, West Rockhill Township. He was 76.
He was the beloved husband for 31 years of Jessie I. (Smith) Sweeney. The couple had lived in Perkasie since 1975.
Born in Roxborough, he was the son of the late Arthur Wand and Myrtle (Kustenbadder) Sweeney.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Sweeney had served in the Occupational Forces in Japan following World War II.
He had been employed in sales management for more than 30 years with SIMCO, now known as Illinois Tool Works, in Lansdale. He retired in 1989.
Mr. Sweeney was a member of St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie and a former member of the North Penn Golf League. He enjoyed playing golf and loved dogs.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Janis Simons, of Boyertown; four grandchildren: Maryann Dewees, of Upper Darby, Stanley Booz and his wife, Sandra, of Hatboro, Vincent Booz and his wife, Kathryn, of Willow Grove, and Tiffany Henning and her husband, John, of Lansdale; and four great-grandchildren: Jessie, Amanda, John, and Julia.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, in St Andrew's Evangelical' Lutheran Church, Dill Avenue and Chestnut Street, Perkasie. Family and friends may call' from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Interment will be in George Washington Memorial Park, Plymouth Meeting.
