Michael Strus, Sr., a 51-year resident of Sellersville, passed away Monday morning, May 29, 2000, in Abington Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was the husband of Mary (Kurylak) Strus. They were married 54 years last September. He was 75.
Born in the Ukraine, he was a son of the late George and Martha Strus. He came to the United States on July 18, 1949, and settled in Sellersville, where he and his wife have lived ever since.
Mr. Strus had been employed as a baker for over 15 years with Morbito's Bakery, Norristown before retiring in 1993. Prior to that, he had been employed with the former Borzillo Bakery, Norristown for many years, where in June of 1977, Mr. Strus baked the bread that was shipped to Rome for Pope Paul VI to use during the canonization of Bishop John Neumann.
He was a 51- year member of St. Agnes Catholic Church,Sellersville, PA.
Mr. Strus was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed gardening and working around the house.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Strus is survived by: four sons: Dennis B. Strus, Pennsburg; William B. Strus and his wife, Mary J., Browns Mill, New Jersey; Stephen M. Strus and his wife, Pat, Ambler; and Michael J. Strus, Jr., at home in Sellersville; six grandchildren: Maryjean, Lisa, Jessica, Amy, Stephen, Jr. and Billy-Jo; and seven great-grandchildren: Megan, Zachary, Jacquelyne, Crystal, Carrie, Levi and Jasmine.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 2, at 10:00 AM in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main Street, Sellersville.
Interment will be in Sellersville Cemetery.
Friends and relatives may call from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Thursday evening, June 1 at the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville.
