Jacob Andrew Steeley, 92, formerly of East Rockhill Township, passed away Saturday, December 30, at his residence in the Rockhill Mennonite Community. He was the beloved husband of Eva Krause (Yerk) Steeley, who died December 28, 2000, to whom he was married for 57 years.
Born in Perkasie, he was a son of the late Jonas D. and Mary Ellen (Ott) Steeley.
Jake was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart.
He had been self-employed as the third generation of Steeley Livestock Hauling in the Perkasie area after the war. Previously, he had worked at the former Link¬Belt, Lansdale. He later worked as a Tipstaff at the Bucks County Courthouse, Doylestown, before retiring in 1981.
He was a life-long member of St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie, where he had served on Church Council and on the Cemetery Board.
He was a member of the Nase-Kraft American Legion Post 255 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Forrest Lodge 245, both of Sellersville. He was also a charter member of Grundsau Lodge No.9, Deep Run.
A decent, hard-working man of quiet strength and integrity, Jake was a devoted family man with a great love for his wife, children and grandchildren. He had many friends who will miss him dearly.
He is survived by a daughter: Beverly Anne Larzelere, and her husband, the Rev. Benjamin, III, Santa Fe, NM; a son, Timothy Lee Steeley, and his wife, Deborah, Harrisburg; two grandchildren: Andrew D. Steeley, Harrisburg and Jennifer L. Steeley, Lancaster; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his dear grandson, Bart Larzelere; three brothers: Edwin, William E. and Benjamin Steeley, and three sisters; Elizabeth V. Steeley, Maggie M. Steeley and Mary Alice Fosbenner.
His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January ,6, at 12:00 PM in St. Andrew's Ev. Lutheran Church, Dill Avenue and Chestnut Street, Perkasie. Family and friends may call at the church Saturday morning, from 11:00 AM until time of service.
Interment will be in St. Andrew's Union Cemetery, Perkasie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Building & Renovation Fund of St. Andrew's Ev. Lutheran Church, PO Box 257, Perkasie, PA 18944.
