Steven Soroka, 76, of Sellersville, formerly of Willow Grove, passed away, Monday, October 10 after an extended illness in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. He was the husband of Geraldine A. (Klose) Soroka.
Born on South Street, Philadelphia, he was the son of the late llko and Mary (Kissel) Soroka. He had lived in Germantown and later Willow Grove, until moving to Sellersville in 1998.
Mr. Soroka was a graduate of' Northeast High School and graduated magna cum laude from Drexel University with a degree in mechanical engineering. He had been employed as a project engineer with Campbell's Soup Company, Camden, retiring in 1988. He previously had worked for the former Turbo, Lansdale and the former International Resistance Company, Philadelphia.
He had many varied interests including astronomy, photography, antiques, coin and stamp collecting, cryptograms, dancing and music. He was an avid walker doing 4 1/2, miles a day. He loved to play the harmonica, build model ships and play chess. Mr. Soroka loved interaction with children and adults as well, especially showing them how to make "Betsy Ross's star for the American flag.
He was a member for over 30 years of St. Anne's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Warrington, where he sang in the choir. He also volunteered his help with many church functions. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose # 1539, Sellersville and the Campbell's Kids Retirees Club, Camden.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: David Soroka, Spring City, P A; Daria Mellert and her husband, Frank, Centreville, MD; Lynda Gallagher and her husband, Jim, Pennsauken, NJ and Michael Soroka and his wife, Regina, Hatboro; 10 grandsons: Daniel, Jason, James, Christopher, Nicholas, Richard, Steven, Daniel, John Steven and Michael; one brother: Harry Soroka, New Castle, PA and his mother-in-law: Wanda Klose, Lansdale.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa.
Family and Friends are invited to attend his viewing in the vestibule of Presentation of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1564 Allentown Road, Lansdale on Friday, October 14 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday in the church.
Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham
