Ruth J. Clemmer

September 1, 1936 — April 27, 2025

Sellersville

Ruth Jeannette Clemmer, of Perkasie, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2025, in the presence of family at The Community at Rockhill, West Rockhill Township. She was 88.

She was the wife of the late Weldon Clemmer, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage until his death in 2016.

Born in Quakertown, she was the daughter of the late Richard W. and Bertha (Yost) Harwick. Ruth was a 1954 graduate of Quakertown High School. majoring in business.

As a young teenager, Ruth was a member of the Quakertown Maccabees Accordion Band, a competitive musical group that traveled as far as Detroit, Michigan.

Employed as a waitress during high school, Ruth would later work as a receptionist at the Harvey Men’s Clothing Factory until she gave birth to her first child in 1960. Thereafter, she was self-employed as a childcare provider in her home until retiring in 1998.

Ruth was a member of St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie, where she was blessed to become acquainted with Pastor Philip Krey. Pastor Krey, whom she loved dearly, would become one of her favorite visitors.

Ruth was regarded by family and friends as an exceptional seamstress. She made all of her daughter's clothing, sized from toddler to college to maternity. Ruth also taught herself how to crochet and knit, knitting beautiful sweaters for all of her family members. After neuropathy and arthritis limited her ability to knit, she began coloring intricate pictures/Christmas cards for family members, service personnel, and nursing home residents.

A talented cook and baker, Ruth loved hosting holiday meals for her family. One of her favorite memories was when her granddaughter asked her if she was a famous cook!

An excellent bowler, Ruth had enjoyed bowling in a mixed league with Weldon, her late husband. Ruth's true passion was spending time with her grandchildren. She provided childcare for her grandchildren who lived locally. In her later years, she continued to spend as much time with them as possible, even though many of them lived a great distance away. In turn, her grandchildren cherished their time with her and loved her dearly.

Mrs. Clemmer is survived by her daughter, Teri McHale; her two sons: Keith Clemmer and his wife Joanne, and Mark Clemmer; seven grandchildren: Lauren Erickson, Kyle Clemmer, Gregory Clemmer, Jenna Covert, Steven Clemmer, Elizabeth Clemmer, and Logan Clemmer; and five great-grandchildren: William Erickson, Dalton Erickson, Clara Erickson, Weldon Clemmer, and Eleanor Clemmer.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Matthew Clemmer, and two grandchildren, Monica Jean Clemmer and Patrick Clemmer.
