Elaine Grace (Bower) Johnson Rhoads

June 2, 1932 — October 6, 2006

Elaine Grace Bower Johnson Rhoads, 74, died quietly at her home in Richland Township, on Friday, October 6 following a long and valiant fight with cancer. She was the wife of J. David Rhoads. They were married 18 years.

Born June 2, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Pearl (Bishop) Bower. She graduated from Lansdale High School in 1950 and studied at the Lansdale School of Business in 1951. She was employed as a real estate secretary and receptionist.

During her first marriage to the late Walter M. Johnson, II, Chief Petty Officer, USNR, she relocated to various states, where she served in secretarial/administrative positions at local churches. Upon her 1972 return to this area, she owned and operated the former Paperbacks Unlimited, Quakertown and the former Das Book Haus, Quakertown, and later in Coopersburg, winning the "Best Book Store" award as voted by Penny Power readers.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two children: daughter, Linda Sue Groff, and her husband, Kent and her son, Walter M. Johnson, III, and his wife, Linda, all of Quakertown; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Her Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, October 11, at 11:00 AM in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville. Family and friends may call Wednesday, from 10:00 AM until time of service.

Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
