Dorothy M. Raudenbush, 96, a lifelong resident of Sellersville, passed away Monday, April 24, in the Rockhill Mennonite Community, West Rockhill Township. She was the beloved wife for 74 years of the late Russell T. Raudenbush, who died April 26, 2003.
Born in Naceville, she was a daughter of the late Archibald and Annie (Wenhold) Wagner.
On September 15, 1928, she married Russell T. Raudenbush in a small plane that took off from the former Patco Airfield in Norristown. They became famous as the area's first couple to be married in an airplane.
Mrs. Raudenbush had worked in a cigar factory and a shirt factory in Sellersville as a teenager. She had also been a seamstress for both the former Penn Pants Factory, Sellersville and the former Quaker Safety Products, Quakertown; and a sewing machine operator for the former DeLoux Factory, Sellersville
She was a lifetime member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sellersville, where she had played the piano and organ for Sunday School and Church services. Mrs. Raudenbush had been the oldest living member of the church. She also had been a member of the Eastern Star.
She enjoyed baking and cooking and had won the Best Pie Contest at St. Paul's UCC. Mrs. Raudenbush loved spending time with her beloved family.
She is survived by two daughters: Janet M. Raudenbush, Sellersville and Beverly A. Raudenbush, Alexandria, Virginia; two sons: R. James Raudenbush and his wife, Marilyn of Dannemora, New York and R. Terry Raudenbush and his wife, Deborah, of Telford; four grandchildren: Pamela Prenoveau and her husband, Michael of Morrisonville, New York; R. James Raudenbush, Jr. and his wife, Pamela of Dannemora Morrisonville, New York; Christina Raudenbush of Plattsburgh, New York and Charlotte M. Snyder and her husband, Brad of Green Hills, PA; and five great-grandchildren: Leanne, Bethany and Jonathon Raudenbush, all of Dannemora, New York ,and Olivia and Michael Prenoveau, Jr., both of Plattsburgh, New York; two sisters: Claire Lofland, Sellersville and Naomi Cressman, Quakertown.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lucretia "Peg " Carr.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 27, at 11:00 AM in St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 104 Green Street, Sellersville. Relatives and friends may call Thursday morning at the church from 10:00 AM until time of service.
Interment in Sellersville Cemetery.
