Rudolph R. Pohl, Sr., 87, of Allentown, formerly of Sellersville, passed away Wednesday evening, February 14, in Good Shepherd Specialty Hospital, Bethlehem. He was the beloved husband of Isabel (Meitzler) Pohl for 22 years and the late Dorothy (Snyder) Pohl.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Anton and Marie (Pressler) Pohl. He had lived in Sellersville since 1932 before moving to Allentown in 2002.
He was a US Navy veteran, having served during World War II. He had been employed as a ship fitter in the Philadelphia Naval Ship Yard. He had owned and operated the former Snyder's Meat Market, Bethlehem, and later owned and operated Kemp's Sportswear Factory, Allentown, for many years before retiring in 1982.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Rudolph R. Pohl, Jr., and his wife, BettyAnn, Kentucky; his daughter, Kathleen Sipes, Joppatowne, MD; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a stepson, James Kocher, Palmerton.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Harry Pohl, who died in 1992.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 20 at 2:00 PM in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville. Family and friends may call Tuesday afternoon at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
Interment will be private.
