Walter E. Pettie Sr., a lifelong resident of Sellersville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 3, 2000, in Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia. He was 68.
He was the husband of Doreene (Gomez) Pettie. They were married 45 years last August.
Born in West Rockhill Township, he was a son of the late Theodore R. and Lillian Mae (Redfern) Pettie.
Mr. Pettie spent over 45 years in the flower business. Beginning with a wholesale flower business for many years, he and his wife eventually opened a retail flower shop in Sellersville, Wayside Gardens, which they have owned and operated for the last 25 years.
He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville.
Mr. Pettie enjoyed rollerskating, bowling and dancing.
Mr. Pettie was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Theresa M., wife of Henry J. Sitko, of Sellersville; Kathleen M., wife of Willard H. Gerhart, of Sellersville; and Maria Ann, wife of Pete Shultz, of Spinnerstown; three sons: Christopher J. Pettie, of Irvine, Calif; Patrick D. Pettie and his wife, Tina R., of Allentown; and Nicholas Walter Pettie, Sr. and his wife, Deborah, of Kintnersville; and three brothers, Theodore R. Pettie, Jr. and his wife, Anna, of Hollywood, Fla.; James H. Pettie, Sr. and his wife, Eula, of Sellersville; and Russell F. Pettie and his wife, Kathryn, of Westfield, Tioga County, Pa. Mr. Pettie is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Mandy, Clayton Walter,Cynthia, Michelle, Carrie, Katrina, Sandra, Patrick, Joshua, Nicholas Wallter, Jr., Brandon, Petie III, Nathan and Maria Ann.
He was preceded in death by two infant sons, Walter Jr. and Michael Joseph.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 9, at 10 a.m. in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main Street, Sellersville, Pa. 18960.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends and relatives may call from 7 until 9 p.m. Wednesday evening, March 8, at the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville and from 9 until 9:50 a.m., Thursday morning, March 9, in the church.
