Carl H. Knauff of San Antonio, formerly of Souderton, Gilbertsville and Ocala, Fla., died on Wednesday, February 5, 2003, in Retama Manor Nursing Center, Pleasanton, Texas. He was 85.
He was the husband of Elaine L, Knauff who died in September 2002.
Born in Sellersville, he was the son of the late William and Helen (Strouse) Knauff. He and his wife had lived most of their married lives in Souderton and Gilbertsville, before moving to Ocala about 12 years ago. They lived in San Antonio for the last few years.
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theatre. He was an instructor and mechanic for the Flying Tiger bombers. He also participated in the occupation of China.
Mr. Knauff was employed for many years as a salesman with Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance, before retiring about 15 years ago. Previously, he had worked in sales with the former Al Renner Clothing Store, Allen town and the former Hope's Clothing, Souderton. He also had worked for many years as a delivery milkman for the former Martin's Dairies, Lansdale.
He had been a former long time member of St. Michael's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sellersville and a past member of the American Legion, Souderton.
Mr. Knauff enjoyed playing pinochle. During his years in Florida, he became an avid bird watcher.
He is survived by three sons, Jim Knauff and his wife, Susan, of Lansdale, Jeffrey Knauff and his wife, Carol, of Mendham, N.J., and Joel Knauff and his wife, Carla Anne, of San Antonio; a daughter, Kay DePaolo and her husband, Rich, of Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Mae Detweiler and her husband, Nevin, of Sellersville; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and James; and a sister, Margaret Walt.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11, in St. Michael's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25 E. Church St., Sellersville, PA 18960. Family and friends may call from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 N. Main St., Sellersville.
Interment will be in Sellersville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at the above address.
