Robert H. Hughes, Jr., 71, of Silverdale, passed away Friday, October 12, in his residence. He was the husband of Dorothea K. (Wright) Hughes. They would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary October 20.
Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Robert H., Sr. and Lillian (Reese) Hughes. He had lived in Silverdale for 40 years.
Mr. Hughes was a U.S. Marines veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was employed as a traffic coordinator for 37 years with Philco Ford -Visteon, first in Philadelphia and later in Lansdale, before retiring in 1998. He also was a driver for the last year and a half with White Circle Freight, Montgomeryville.
Early In his life, Mr. Hughes had played clarinet and saxophone with the former Art Foster Orchestra, a dance band In Philadelphia. He had been a clean-up volunteer with the Adopt-a-Highway program while with Visteon.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Hughes and her husband, Max Smith, Silverdale; two granddaughters, Jessica and Devan; his furry friends: "Greta," "Daisy," "Fuzz," and "Ashley;" and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Leslie Hughes.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday morning, October 16 at 10:00 AM in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville.
