Margaret A. Donohue, 76, a 42 year resident of Ambler, passed away Thursday, June 22, in Chestnut Hill Hospital, Philadelphia, after a short illness. She was the wife of Patrick T. Donohue for 32 years. She passed away on their 32nd wedding anniversary. She was also the wife of the late David W. McKinnon, who passed away in 1965.
Born in Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Kester) Raub. She spent 34 years living in Bethlehem before moving to Ambler 42 years ago.
Mrs. Donohue was employed for many years as the head chef for many area restaurants, including the former Witchwood Restaurant, Montgomeryville; the former Howard & Johnson's and the former Ferla's Restaurant, both in Ambler. She also spent several years in charge of the kitchen with the Wissahickon School District.
She later spent many years as a head chef with ARA Services, Philadelphia, where she had prepared meals in the cafeterias of Scott Paper, Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Art Museum, and the Certain-Teed Corporation, Blue Bell. While at Certain-Teed, Mrs. Donohue prepared a special banquet for the NASA astronauts, including John Glenn. Glenn personally congratulated and thanked Mrs. Donohue for the meal and autographed her menu. She retired from ARA Services in 1990.
Mrs. Donohue also spent several years as the head chef for banquets at the American Legion, Sellersville.
She was a Catholic.
Mrs. Donohue was an active Girl Scout Leader for six years in Ambler. She was a past president of the Auxiliary of the American Legion, Nase-Kraft Post 255, Sellersville and a past president of the Auxiliary of the Cooties, Pup-Tent 20, Telford.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Donohue is survived by: one daughter, Margaret A. Verdecchio, wife of Robert N. Verdecchio, Wyncote; two sisters: Charlotte, wife of John Rzepielia, and Joan, wife of Harold Raymond, all of Bethlehem; one brother, Charles Raub and his wife, Phyllis, of Easton; five grandchildren: Jessica, Rebecca and Michael Verdecchio, Wyncote; and Danielle and Jacqueline Harley, Lansdale; a son-in-law, Danny L. Harley, Lansdale; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte L. Harley, of Lansdale (Margaret A. Verdecchio's twin sister), who passed away October 27, 1997. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Jane A. Senick, of Bethlehem, who passed away May 25, 2000.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 27, at 10 AM in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main St., Sellersville, PA.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Monday, June 26, from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM at the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville.
