Nevin Hunsicker Detweiler

July 30, 1920 — August 1, 2004

Nevin Hunsicker Detweiler, 84, of Sellersville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 1, at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Helen Mae (Knauff) Detweiler. They were married 58 years.

Born in Souderton, he was the only child of the late Vincent and Lizzie (Hunsicker) Detweiler. He had graduated from Souderton High School in 1938 and had lived in Sellersville for over 58 years.

Mr. Detweiler was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Alaska during World War II.

He had been employed for 26 years as a maintenance carpenter with U.S. Gauge Division, Ametek, Inc., Sellersville before retiring in 1985. Previously, he had been employed as a carpenter with building contractors in the Philadelphia and local areas.

Mr. Detweiler was an active member of St. Michael's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sellersville, where he was a member of the choir and various other organizations within the church for over 60 years.

He was a 50-year member of the Sellersville Fire Department and the Fire Police. He was a lifetime member of both the Delaware Valley Wood Carvers Association and the Loyal Order of Moose, # 1539, Sellersville.

He served as a local judge of elections in Sellersville for many years. He was involved with the Sellersville Boy Scouts for many years, too, serving as Cub master, Troop Leader and as Executive Council Member.

An avid and popular woodworker, he enjoyed wood carving and turning. Many of his projects are on display throughout the community. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball. Most of all, Mr. Detweiler loved spending time with his family and friends and visiting new places.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons: Jack A. Detweiler and his wife, Pat, of Ormond Beach, Florida; Richard J. Detweiler and his wife, Helga, of Sellersville; and Barry L. Detweiler and his wife, Ruth, of West Rockhill Township; seven grandchildren: Jared, Brandon. Colin, Nicole, Beth, Dominic and David; and three great- grandchildren.

His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, August 5, at 11:30 AM in St. Michael's Ev. Lutheran Church, 25 East Church Street, Sellersville. Family and friends may call at the church on Thursday morning from 9:30 AM until 11:15 AM.

Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Souderton.
