Ruth B. Case, 90, a longtime resident of Sellersville, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012, at Clare Bridge of Montgomery, North Wales. She was the beloved wife of the late John "Jack" Case.
Born in Loganton (Clinton County), she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Smith) Brungard.
Ruth graduated from Loganton High School in 1939 and Lock Haven State Teachers College in 1944. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
From 1946-1950, Ruth had been employed as a teacher and later a principal in Sellersville Elementary School. After raising her family, Mrs. Case taught in several Pennridge School District locations from 1965-1986, including the Sellersville, Third Street, and Perkasie Elementary Schools.
Before her return to teaching, she had served several terms on the Pennridge School Board.
A longtime member of St Michael's Lutheran Church, Sellersville, she was active with WELCA, the Women of the Church group. She also taught Sunday school and was a member of Church Council.
Active in the community, she volunteered as a Girl Scouts leader and with the Sellersville Museum. With her husband, she worked with Meals on Wheels. She also served on several committees at the Lutheran Community at Telford.
Ruth enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle and loved going to the beach. She also participated in the DKG teachers’social group.
Mrs. Case is survived by her daughter, Jane Freeman, and her partner, Harry Rupp, of Perkasie; three grandchildren: Jennifer Freeman, of Schwenksville; Jamie Schubert, of Colorado; and Michael Schubert, of Washington, D.C.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie Schubert; a brother, John Brungard; a sister, Ida J. Brungard; and a half-sister, Mary Sheetz.
Her memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Friday, January 27, in St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25 East Church Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. There are no calling hours. Friends may greet the family at a reception following the service.
