Robert E. Beltz, of Perkasie, formerly of West Hazleton, died Saturday evening, March 22, 2003, in his home under hospice care after a 2-year battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family and friends. He was 68.
He was the husband of Josephine (Simonetta) Beltz. They were married 42 years last November.
Born in Drums, Pa., he was the son of the late Edgar and Ivy (Franz) Beltz. He had lived in the Perkasie area for the past 38 years.
Bob had been employed for many years as a glazer with Glazer's Local Union 252 Philadelphia, before retiring in 1990 after a back injury. He had also tended bar for several local establishments for many years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the late 1950s and early 1960s as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division. He had participated in "Exercise White Cloud," a parachute assault to test the effectiveness of Strategic Army Corps (STRAC) troops. He also was a rifleman in the division's 327th Infantry.
Bob was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Lansdale.
He liked classic cars and enjoyed helping others and telling jokes.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Lisa Ann Beltz,of Brookhaven, Pa.; his brother, Richard Beltz and his wife, Virginia, of Souderton; and his sister, LaReda Hartzell, of Allentown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jewell Beltz.
Bob donated his body to Humanities Gift Registry.
His memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 30, in th Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main St., Sellersville. Family and friends may call from 2:30 until the time of the service in the funeral home
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer Mass cards or memorial contributions be made to Grand View Hospice, 700 Lawn Ave, Sellersville, PA 18960.
