Edward James Ahern, 78, of Perkasie, formerly of Philadelphia, went home to the Lord, Thursday, November 30, at his home. He was the beloved husband of Jacqueline (Shollenberger) Ahern. They were married 48 years.
Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Edward James, Sr. and Catherine (O'Brien) Ahern. He was a graduate of West Catholic High School and had attended LaSalle College, both of Philadelphia.
Ed had been employed for many years in retail sales with Sears. After retirement, he had worked for Shelly & Fenstermacher, Perkasie.
He was a US Army veteran, having served during the Korean War.
He was a longtime member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville, where he had served as a Eucharistic minister. He was also a member of the Milford Gun Club, where he enjoyed target shooting.
Ed was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his nine children: Patricia Ahern Constable and her husband, John, Pottstown; Kevin Ahern and his wife, Susan, Chalfont; Virginia Ahern Croissette and her husband, Todd, Quakertown; Michael Ahern and his wife, Jennifer, Hatfield; Brian Ahern, Collegeville; Barbara Ahern Wertz and her husband, Rich, Verona, NJ; Dennis Ahern and his wife, Julie, Lansdale; Karen Ahern Powers and her husband, John, Sellersville; Janet Ahern Trull and her husband, Drake, Perkiomenville; one sister, Terry Ahern, Newtown Square; and sixteen grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Raymond and John, and two sisters: Mary Ahem Whoriskey and Alice Ahern.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 9, at 11:30 AM in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main Street, Sellersville. Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until 11 :30 AM.
Interment will be in the adjacent cemetery.
